The Bangalore Endoscopic Surgery Training Institute and
Research Center has been involved in a major research projects in association with
Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in developing a virtual reality
laparoscopic surgery training module. The Phase I of the project has been completed
and the 1st module comprising of basic exercises done using a virtual reality is
undergoing clinical trials. The Phase II of this project is a joint venture between
B.E.S.T. Institute, DRDO and MIT of USA, which has started.
The B.E.S.T. Institute has also designed and developed several instruments and gadgets
for both training and performing of laparoscopic surgeries along with many Indian
manufacturers of Instruments.
The B.E.S.T. Institute and Research Center is currently involved with development
of telemedicine’s and is conducting research and development of modules for telementoring
laparoscopic surgeries.
